The BEST Garlic Mashed Potatoes! Quick and Easy Side Dish

Mashed Potatoes are an American side dish classic! I mean who could resist creamy garlicky mashed potatoes whipped together with milk and butter! Not only are these Garlic Mashed Potatoes beyond delicious but they go well with just about any dish you prepare with it!

These mashed potatoes are very easy are are great served with sour cream, chives and of course extra butter on top! Mashed potatoes make great leftovers and are super easy to reheat and quickly serve all week long.

Tips For The Best Mashed Potatoes

I use my Kitchen Aid stand mixer which I love. It’s a staple in my from scratch kitchen! However, if you don’t have a stand mixer an electric hand mixer or potato masher would work just fine!

Instructions:

Step 1:

First, get a large pot of water boiling on the stove.

Step 2:

Wash and peel your potatoes.

Step 3:

Next, cut the potatoes into small equal sized chunks.

Step 4:

Boil the potatoes until fork tender.

Step 5:

Drain potatoes and add them to a stand mixer or large bowl.

Step 6:

Start the mixer on low speed with the paddle attachment.

Step 7:

In a large skillet, add milk and butter to warm

Step 8:

Once the butter starts to melt add your pressed garlic.

Step 9:

Once the milk and butter mixture is warm add it to the potatoes along with the salt.

Step 10:

Next, add the whisk attachment and turn the mixer on low-medium speed and mix well

Step 11:

Turn the mixer off periodically to scrape the bottom of the potatoes up.

Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3lbs yukon gold potatoes
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

      1. First, start boiling a large pot of water
      2. Next, wash and peel your potatoes
      3. After washing, peel and cut your potatoes into equal sized chunks (the smaller the chunk the faster it will cook)
      4. Boil the potatoes until you can easily pierce them with a fork
      5. Drain potatoes and add them to a stand mixer or bowl
      6. If you have a kitchen aid start with the paddle attachment on low speed until mashed (if you don't have a stand mixer just beat on low speed or mash until mostly broken up)
      7. In a large skillet start melting your butter on medium to low
      8. While melting add in your minced garlic
      9. Once your butter is melted add in the milk and just to warm (do not let boil)
      10. Once, you've warmed the milk and butter mixture add to bowl of potatoes along with salt
      11. Next, use your wisk attachment (or beaters) and mix on low to medium speed until well combined (turning the mixer off periodically to scrape the bottom of the bowl to the top)
      12. Enjoy!

Notes

Be careful to not overmix the potatoes as it might turn them gummy.
