Organic and Grass-Fed… could it be more affordable? YES!

Over the years I’ve become more convicted on putting real thought into to quality of food fueling my family’s bodies. However, as a homemaker on one income and being someone who loves to save money. I’ve had to become real creative on how to achieve this. And the best part! I don’t even have to leave my house for any of it!

Everything I get is online and I shop between three different sites. I’m going to break this up between three different categories Meat, Dairy + Produce, and Pantry Staples. I’m also going to be giving some practical tips for utilizing ingredients.

Grass-Fed & Pasture Raised Meat

We get our meat from Butcher Box! I absolutely love Butcher Box and here’s why!

I have a little strategy on how I get the most bang for my buck using Butcher Box. You can make it as expensive or as cheap as you want depending on which cuts you choose. For example, theres two different size boxes you can order, the 6-cut classic box or the 12- cut big box. We purchase the 6-cut box for our family of 3. Which means we’re only spending $169 a month on grass-fed and organic meat!

BONUS! When you sign up they always have different for life offers. For example, when I signed up we recieved the free chicken thighs for life!

Chicken

I love purchasing a whole chicken instead of chicken parts. This way I get more out of the chicken for our money. My favorite part is that I also get to use the bones for my homemade bone broth.

Pork

One of my favorites is the pork loin! Instead of us purchasing the pork chops which only gives you 4. We buy the 3.5 pound pork loin and I have my husband cut it into 10-12 pork chops.

They also sell a 1 pound of breakfast sausage which I love but I don’t love just getting just one pound! My hack for the ground sausage is choosing the two pack of 1lb ground sausage. This way I get double to pork sausage! All I need to do to turn it into a breakfast sausage is to season it! Check out this recipe on how to turn pork suasage into breakfast sausage.

More On Butcher Box

Butcher Box is a subscription service that you can adjust how often you’d like to receive a box. Like I said, mine is set to every 4 weeks. However, if you’re not quite ready for a new box. All you do is login and delay your box by however many weeks you need.

This has been a game changer for us. High quality meat is not only hard to find in stores but when you do its usually way overpriced.

Dairy + Produce + Eggs

My next favorite place to shop is Misfits! Misfits Market claims to be up to 40% less that in store prices which I can definitely attest to! Misfits is where I get all my dairy, eggs and produce from every week, and it couldn’t be easier. Just be sure to write down your shopping window! Otherwise, Misfits will curate a box for you. However, if they do forget (which I have!) They’ve always been amazing at issuing me a refund and cancelling the order.

Produce

I love getting my produce from Misfits! It’s always fresh and I just can’t beat the price on all the organic options!

Eggs

I’ve found some really awesome products on there one of which is EGGS! I know everyone is really struggling right now with the cost of eggs. Honestly, I haven’t even noticed because I’m paying $3.29 for a dozen of organic eggs from Pete and Gary’s! Seriously though, I’m paying less for organic eggs that most people are paying for conventional.

Dairy

My other favorite thing is the dairy products! They have tons of organic and or grass-fed dairy products that I can’t find in stores. Just like meat when have found them it’s been so expensive! I just don’t have it in my budget to splurge on them.

High Quality & Organic Pantry Staples

The best place I’ve found to fill my pantry with all our dried goods is Thrive Market. I get all sorts of stuff from here and about once a month I like to place an order. My favorite things to get from here are our organic coffee and my organic flour! I kid you not they had King Arthur’s organic flour on sale for $5.99 a bag at one point!

And at Thrive Market you can shop all sorts of different products! They offer pantry staples, meat + seafood, wine, beauty + baby products, vitamins and more.

Thrive Market has the option to auto-ship items to save 5%. You can also turn it off and just shop as needed. Thrive Market is the only website on this list that requires a membership which is $59.95 a year. It took me awhile to try put thrive because I was worried if it would be worth it. I’m so glad I finally did. It has been so worth it, and I still save a ton of money this way.

There you have it all the ways I save money on a budget while also trying to pick the best quality I can find. I don’t have my own chickens and dairy cow yet! I also don’t have the best local options, but this has worked so well for us!

Another great place to shop is Aldi! I love Aldi, I can’t get everything from them. However, what they do have is amazing!

Purchasing Ingredients Over Packaged Foods

Sometimes I find that there’s just certain things that will cost less if I just make them myself. Some of those things include yogurt, bread, bone broth, butter and so much more.

When you take the middle man out and the processing you typically end up with not only a healthier option but a cheaper one too. Trying to find store bought items that are high quality or organic it ends up being really expensive. Try your hand at creating typical processed foods right at home!

I do my best to make things from scratch and just do my best to be very resourceful. Which has been so rewarding and feels like such an honor to do for my family!
